“Ultimately, it’s a generational, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I don’t think we will ever regret if we do it. You look at other cities that have done this and it has uniformly been loved by the public. How often do we have the chance to create 20 acres of prime real estate downtown that is for the public?”

On Thursday, Austin City Council will decide whether or not to build caps (parks) over I-35. Here’s what you need to know…
If built, the caps would cover sections of I-35 with parkland, small buildings, and other public amenities.
Building all originally-proposed six caps would cost $1.4 billion, so several smaller (and less expensive proposals) have been shared by different Council members.
The main questions that remain are - should we build caps at all? And if so, how many and where should the funding come from?
